![]() ![]() The characters, though over-the-top, where relatively believable and the interaction/dialogue was excellent! Lots of laughs - I definitely dove into the story quickly and got lost - read it in 2 days. Almost read like an old Dick Tracy, or private eye B movie, but with a vulgar, despicable edge. The style is fluid, cheeky, edgy and at times, truly offensive. Again, I'm no expert on this writing style, but it seems you must stay in the moment and if you are going to move back or forward, you'd be do it quickly. No fluff - I don't think present tense could support a bunch of description and tangents. At 55k words, it was on the light side.Īgain, I'm certainly not saying that as a negative- Just the opposite. It didn't let off the gas until the last sentence, which for a horror book (This is not a mobster/Mafia book btw, regardless of how it's billed.) is rare these days - I think going forward I'll be more inclined to read shorter novels like this one. ![]() Odd at first, but the story gains speed quickly and goes full throttle by chapter 8. It's the first book (I can remember) I've read in current tense. Fun stuff - Truly original - reading up on this author and his style, the book does read like a movie. ![]()
